About Me
I’ve spent all of my life in California. I was born on the central coast, and then moved north with my family as a kid. Then I returned to the central coast to attend Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
I graduated with a degree in Architectural Engineering, and spent the first part of my career as a structural engineer. In case you don’t know, structural engineers work closely with architects to design buildings. An architect designs the space in the building, while the structural engineer makes sure the building doesn’t fall down. The coolest project that I worked on is a satellite testing facility for Lockheed in Sunnyvale, CA. The columns in the building were 4 feet wide and 4 feet deep and the floor of the building was a solid mass of concrete 8 feet deep! I have been a licensed Civil Engineer in CA for 17 years.
I’ve always loved math, but after I had kids, I became fascinated with the educational process. So I returned to school to get a teaching credential (I am credentialed to teach math and physics); and while I was there I earned a M. Ed with a specialization in Educational Technology.
I’ve been married for 21 years and my husband and I have lived in Rocklin for 18 of those years. I have a daughter, Kylee, in 10th grade at WHS; and a son, Landon, in 8th grade at SVMS.
In my spare time, I love to run and be active. I have run 12 marathons and twice ridden by bike over 100 miles in one day. I spend many evening and weekends watching my kids play sports (volleyball, basketball, cross country, wrestling and track!). I am also an 10-year blood cancer survivor and a self-described health nut, but those 2 things are probably related. Go figure!
I look forward to a fabulous year! I hope that my students can learn to share some of the love that I have for math as we work together this year.
